Mediation is a form of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) that parties may utilize to settle their dispute outside of court.  Mediation is useful for many parties because it takes the dispute out of a litigious and adversarial atmosphere and places it into a problem-solving setting with a neutral third-party mediator to assist the parties in reaching a resolution.  If Mediation is successful, parties may be able to avoid going to court, along with the time, expense, and emotional strain of litigating unresolved disputes.  Many individuals are additionally drawn to the privacy of the mediation process as the mediation occurs outside of a courtroom setting and is confidential.

When considering whether mediation is right for you, it is important to understand that Mediators are neutral to the process.  They are not an advocate for one party over the other although they may assist in setting realistic expectations of reasonableness when it comes to each party’s position.
